    It may have been 114 degrees F in Las Vegas—but Cosmoprof NA (July 28-30) was once again a cool environment in which to get the current pulse of the beauty industry—as Beauty Packaging’s publisher Jay Gorga and I find is true with all the tradeshows we attend.

    As was evident in other events that we spent considerable time at this year, including the 2019 Luxe Pack and MakeUp In shows and Cosmoprof Bologna, the undeniable focus was on Sustainable Packaging, with new advances and solutions announced seemingly in every aisle. Still, “packaging materials confusion” often reigns and, more than ever, it’s left to the suppliers to provide an insightful and accurate education.

    Another leading trend is for CBD-related packaging, for non-psychoactive cosmetic purposes, with products ranging from skincare to makeup, including lipsticks, perfume, facial cream, moisturizers and shampoos.

    No wonder these products are taking the industry by storm. According to Arturo Garcia, writing for born2invest.com, “Jefferies found that online search trends for ‘CBD beauty’ have increased by 370 percent within just the first two months of 2019. As they follow through with this, they estimated that the CBD beauty segment alone could reach $25 billion in the next ten years. Space will also eat up 15 percent of the market which used to be dominated by the traditional skincare market which currently sits at $167 billion.”
