    Bormioli offers an ultra-light glass Eco-Line for its perfume and skincare ranges. An anti-UV treatment and eco-frosting (a lacquer which provides a frosted effect, soft touch and extreme resistance) are two additional treatments available. The decrease of glass weight and external volume reduces the impact on the environment—particularly for EcoLine jars, which Bormioli says can cut CO2 up to -70% compared to a blown glass jar and -80% compared to a pressed glass jar. They all have a threaded neck which makes them refillable and completely recyclable by waste separation, according to Bormioli.

    Unique Distinctions has introduced the ‘Eco Pod System,’ which works as a refillable system by utilizing an inner pod. This allows consumers to keep the same base and simply insert a new pod. The refillable pod system features a reusable jar and lid, and the pod and jar are available in PCR plastic. Available in 80- and 100ml, custom colors and decoration are also available.

    Sustainability in both packaging and corporate practices continues as one of the key topics in the beauty industry, as well as many other sectors, driven primarily by environmental concerns from consumers and governments—especially as 2025 goals set over the past few years hover ever closer.

    Announcements from retailers, manufacturers, brands and industry in 2020 show that a number of companies are expanding their efforts to protect the planet. In March, for example, Giles Hurley CEO of the Aldi grocery chain, told suppliers looking to sell to Aldi that products must be packaged in 100% recyclable, compostable or reusable material by 2025. Hurley added that the move to sustainability is “non-negotiable,” and that buying decisions moving forward “will be based on our supply partners’ ability to lead and adapt in this area.”
