Everyday Humans says it is launching a first-of-its-kind product —an 'upcycled' sunscreen, "Rose from Above."
"Rose from Above" is an SPF 35 mineral sunscreen with a star ingredient, "upcycled" rose oil—a pure form of rose water distilled from "exhausted" rose petals.
Everyday Humans is a clean skincare brand founded by Charlotte Chen Pienaar that focuses on sustainability, using eco-conscious packaging whenever possible.
So what makes the ingredient "upcycled"?
“Upcycled skincare is the newest frontier of sustainable skincare," explains Chen Pienaar. "We save commercial by-products from plants, flowers, fruits, and vegetables typically discarded as waste, giving them a second lease of life.”In the traditional manufacturing process, nearly every step yields waste – including the cultivation of the plant, extraction of the plant, or waste from commercial production. Upcycling ingredients means that the waste doesn’t end up in landfills and can be transformed and utilized.
Chen Pienaar adds, “Upcycling is increasingly being recognized as an innovative way to lessen waste and reduce energy consumption, both in the beauty sector and beyond. We’re thrilled to be one of the first sunscreen brands to incorporate upcycled ingredients in our formulas.”
'Rose from Above' is Moisturizing Primer + Barrier Protector
"Rose From Above" boasts several benefits — such as priming skin, reducing the appearance of fine lines, and retaining moisture. It also shields against UVA/UVB damage with mineral-active non-nano zinc oxide. It also contains a unique combination of plant squalane, ceramides, and antioxidants that support the skin barrier and keep external aggressors at bay.
Aside from Upcycled Rose Oil, Rose From Above boosts moisture and skin barrier strength with Plant Squalane and Ceramides, while antioxidant-rich Yucca Root, Desert Sand Verbena, and Jacob Cactus extract help soothe and prime skin.
Overall, it's a lightweight and healthy base layer. "It wears excellently under make-up or on its own," the brand states.
Everyday Humans opened a waitlist for "Rose from Above" on April 18th, and the sunscreen will launch on April 28th.
