With its many touted benefits, there’s been a growing trend to incorporate the nutrient in skincare and body products.

Old-time sailors suffered from scurvy due to a lack of vitamin C, also known as ascorbic acid. Their deficiency led to symptoms such as weakness, anemia, gum disease and skin problems.

Today, Vitamin C is acknowledged to be both an essential nutrient and an antioxidant. It is necessary in making collagen, an important component in the growth, development and repair of all body tissues.

The benefits of Vitamin C have been well-noted in the beauty industry, as the boost in collagen production can lead to firmer, more plump skin as it smooths out fine lines and wrinkles. Numerous cosmetic products, from super luxe to mass market, have captured the nutrients for enhancements to face and body.
