Pascal Houdayer, CEO of Orveon 05.01.23
At Orveon, we believe in sustainability that will enable healthier skin, for healthier people in a healthier planet. To this end, our vision is to lead the Beauty industry as sustainable face care experts by considering our environmental impact in all ingredients, manufacturing, and packaging innovations.
To change the way we develop for a more sustainable product offering, we’ve focused among other things our advances in sustainable packaging around our new product launches. The main areas we focus on in product development include reduction, recyclability, as well as refilling/reusing packaging.
We’ve reduced overall material usage and thereby our carbon footprint by designing primary packaging that is the right size and light weight, eliminating unnecessary secondary and/or tertiary packaging. Incorporating a circular approach, we look to design all of our packaging to be recycled. This can be challenging due to factors such as size, color, and finish requirements in the sorting process. However, we look to incorporate PCR materials wherever we can, making it a priority in instances where circular packaging is not available. This helps in reducing Orveon’s reliance on virgin petroleum-based plastics in the short-term, until we can transition to either circular materials, refillable formats, or truly recyclable/sortable parts.
Refillable containers are gaining traction across the industry. At Orveon, we are looking to incorporate this type of packaging wherever possible to move away from single use plastic packaging. The idea of consumers re-using packaging which significantly reduces the material needed for repeat purchases is very attractive for us. The offering usually needs a consumer base willing to participate, but the responsibility lies with us to develop a user friendly and innovative pack that can be refilled.
In addition to how we approach new package development, we are actively surveying our existing portfolio to integrate more eco-friendly materials or pack formats. While there is no perfect approach to sustainability as many of these methods come with challenges, especially in the beauty industry, we are actively working towards a better future as we face forward together.
Humbly but forcefully, Orveon Global is striving to Change Beauty for the better.
