Reports say The Body Shop UK, which recently entered administration, could be acquired by the UK clothing retailer Next.
Next's acquisitions in recent years include Joules, Cath Kidston, Fat Face, JoJo Maman Bébé, and Made.com.
Next executives have reportedly contacted FRP Advisory and expressed an interest in certain assets of The Body Shop. Sky News reported that it doubted a conventional auction would take place. The report also suggested that contact between FRP and Next has "already stalled."
Should Next strike a deal with administrators, Sky News reports it is unlikely The Body Shop will retain its 198 stores in the UK.
The Body Shop owner Aurelius is financing the business and secured major assets including stock and intellectual property, which are not part of the administration process.
Within the next few weeks, FRP is expected to decide if it wants to launch an auction. It is also possible that FRP will sell the business back to Aurelius in its new form.
