C.O. Bigelow—often called "America's oldest apothecary"—was profiled in The NY Times Style Magazine on February 26th. In the feature, A New York Drugstore Nearly as Storied as the City Itself, Reggie Nadelson spoke to Alec Ginsberg and Ian Ginsberg, the father-and-son co-owners of the iconic Greenwich village store.
Nadelson describes the cloth model of Anthony Fauci, perched atop a small balcony at the back of the shop floor made by set designer Amy Henry. See it below.
The article praises the family for helping New Yorkers through every hardship. Nadelson writes, "Bigelow has stayed open through the pandemic — just as it did in the aftermath of Sept. 11, and through Superstorm Sandy and New York’s big blackouts..."
Throughout its long history, many famous names have shopped the store's aisles—including Mark Twain in 1901 and Eleanor Roosevelt in the 1940s, who both lived nearby.
