The first-ever MAC Makeup Studio is set to open in New York City on July 15th.
The New York Times reports that James Gager, creative director, MAC Cosmetics, came up with the idea for the brand to open a makeup studio - and the folks at Estee Lauder have apparently approved. (See the photos of the space at the previous New York Times link).
The studio will be located on Lexington Avenue and 63rd Street, a few blocks from Bloomingdale's. The 950 sq. ft. space will have six chairs, plus 2 "secret" VIP chairs hidden behind a curtain.
Customers will be able to make an appointment to visit the studio to get their makeup done, as a service, in a spa-like atmosphere. There won't be any interference by a sales team pushing products, although the cosmetics lines will be on display - and will no doubt be purchased.
The studio will be open seven days a week, from 7 a.m. Services include contoured cheeks, a smokey eye, or the "winged liner," which is priced at just $15. A full face makeup application is $60 - depending on the techniques used. The brand expects social media to play a role in makreting the aalon, and will be promoting the looks on all its accounts.
