Forty-four pieces of jewelry from the collections of Estee Lauder and Evelyn Lauder were up for auction this week at Sotheby's in New York - and raised $3.9 million, which will benefit two charities.
The jewels included a ruby, emerald and diamond Cartier Tutti Frutti bracelet, which was estimated before the sale to bring up to $1 million at auction, sold for more than $2.1 million - marking an auction record for any Tutti Frutti bracelet by Cartier.
Proceeds from the sale of 33 jewels from Evelyn Lauder's collection will support the Breast Cancer Research Foundation, which she founded. Eleven pieces from the collection of Estee Lauder will benefit the Alzheimer's Drug Discovery Foundation.
Estee Lauder passed away in 2004. Evelyn Lauder, her daughter-in-law, passed away in 2011.
