Editor’s Letter: Beauty’s Transformation

Change happens quickly in the beauty industry—here's what's in Beauty Packaging Magazine's June 2026 issue.

Welcome to Beauty Packaging Magazine’s June 2026 issue!

Spring is finally here! The blossoming flora is a thrilling reminder of how quickly change can come about after a long, hard winter. Or, decades of working toward sustainability. I was reminded of this while taxiing to my hotel in Bologna for Cosmoprof/Cosmopack. Slightly ahead of NY seasonally, trees had already leafed out, and vibrant blossoms were accenting the greenery.

Touring the Cosmopack area with Beauty Packaging’s Publisher, Jay Gorga, I made this connection to the gigantic beauty pavilions that had been empty earlier in the season, but now housed a vast array of products and packaging that would spur colorful innovations in beauty aisles and online. Fruitful evidence at exhibitors’ stands showed effective solutions on the long road to sustainability.

We’ve already visited 5 major beauty industry trade fairs this year (Cosmoprof Miami, Luxe Pack & MakeUp in LA, Cosmoprof Bologna (and at press time, Luxe Pack New York), and sustainable packaging technology had advanced at each.

At Cosmoprof Bologna, mono-materials seemed to be a top-of-mind sustainability solution. At LPNY, refillables and pouches frequently entered the picture, as did PET and PCR. Still, the debate rages on: The overriding challenge: “Sustainability is difficult to monetize.” But legislation is around the corner…

Our coverage in this issue on secondary cartons also looks at the sustainable advances and challenges faced by brands and manufacturers. An increase in online shopping and home delivery has contributed to the use of lightweight packaging, such as paper-based secondary and shipping cartons and bags. As the EU sets new legislation in place, GreenBlue has described the increasing move toward paper as “a once-in-a-generation shift toward packaging paperization.”

Polaris Market Research says the global packaging industry is undergoing “a profound transformation,” and the “next-gen paper-based and fiber-based packaging market is emerging as a cornerstone of this evolution.” Growth, says Polaris, is being driven by “a universal shift toward sustainable packaging solutions that prioritize recyclability, biodegradability, and reduced environmental impact.”

The challenge now, say experts, is making packaging more sustainable, without sacrificing the brand experience. It’s a hurdle we’ll be following closely.

Happy Spring!
