Credo Beauty has appointed Boma Brown-West as vice president of sustainability and impact to further the “clean beauty" retailer’s presence within the clean, sustainable beauty space. Brown-West will take over from Mia Davis.
Brown-West holds more than 15 years of experience in sustainable leadership. Starting at Whirlpool Corporation she later joined the Environmental Defense Fund where she was the spokesperson on safer product leadership and managed EDF’s partnerships with retailers to create and reopen chemical policies. In 2019 Brown-West joined Credo’s Clean Beauty Council.
According to Credo, Davis is leaving her position after five years in pursuit of making "a similar positive impact on other sectors." She will continue to work with the non-profit Pact Collective, co-founded with MOB Beauty in 2021, as well as be an advisor for Credo.
While at Credo Beauty, Davis helped to operationalize the company’s mission and its definition of clean. She also implemented strong safety and sustainability policies in beauty retail. While at Credo, Davis created The Credo Clean Standard, including the Sustainable Packaging Guidelines.
She also organized the creation of the first-of-its-kind Fragrance Transparency Policy, which requires Credo brands to categorize the source of fragrance ingredients, encouraging brands to fully disclose all fragrance ingredients.
“I have enjoyed raising the bar on ingredient safety, packaging sustainability, and product transparency with the team at Credo,” Davis said. “Alongside our brand partners, supply chain allies, nonprofit partners, we’ve made real progress in an industry that has been reluctant to change the system-wide status quo. Our collaborative work has resulted in fewer toxic chemicals on people’s skin, less plastic on the shelves and in the environment, and greater awareness of the need for safety and data disclosure.”
