    Here's how Arbonne is supporting a circular economy—and its sustainable packaging goals for 2025.

    Lots of companies and beauty brands—both large and small— have announced new sustainable packaging goals recently, as the pressure mounts for us all to respond to the climate crisis.

    Arbonne's Annual Sustainability Report is a comprehensive look at how the company supports a circular economy. The report highlights its recent achievements in 'greener' manufacturing and eco-friendly packaging.

    Andrea Chase, director of corporate responsibility & social impact at Arbonne, says, "We're excited to unveil Arbonne's sustainability accomplishments and goals..."

    Chase continues, "...to ensure our mission and commitment to empowering people and assuring the planet flourishes and these efforts can be sustained for future generations."

    Fabienne Smolinski, chief people and CSR officer at Arbonne, adds, "I am extremely proud of the progress that we've made in the past year. We have more work to do and recognize that sustainability is a journey, but our employees and customers are right alongside us in this journey..."

    Sustainability Goals To Meet By 2025

    By 2025, Arbonne expects to:
    • Divert over 90% of its waste, globally
    • Reduce water consumption by 20% compared to a 2019 baseline
    • Reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 50% compared to 2019, and then 75% by 2030
    • Reduce energy consumption by 20% compared to 2019

    Striving To Be Zero-Waste, Reducing Emissions

    Arbonne is based in Irvine, California, where its zero-waste headquarters and distribution center diverted more than 98% of its waste was diverted from landfills in 2019 and 99% in 2020. In June 2020, Arbonne's UK office became its first net-zero emissions location by converting 100% renewable electricity generated by wind and hydro-power, eliminating carbon emissions. 

    Arbonne benchmarks its suppliers based on social and environmental risks using the Blue KanGo tool. Next, low and medium-risk suppliers complete an EcoVadis assessment. 

    Expanding Its Send-Back Recycling Program

    Since all types of beauty packaging are not recyclable or are not collected locally, Arbonne created its own recycling stream, 'ArbonneCycle.' The send-back program was created in partnership with Terracycle.

    The program was expanded globally in December 2020 and provides a way for consumers to recycle all of Arbonne's non-curbside eligible packaging. 

    Arbonne's PCR & Glass Packaging

    Arbonne International is a privately held company that creates beauty and wellness products made with plant-based ingredients and operates as a Certified B Corp. Its formulations are based on clinical research, and all products are vegan and cruelty-free. The company's ingredient policy bans more than 2,000 ingredients, such as PEGs, parabens and phthalates.

    Arbonne's Botaniques Concentrated Shower Gel, shown above, is in a bottle made with 100% PCR—and the new concentrated formula resulted in a 65% reduction in packaging. 

    Arbonne recently converted several of its skincare lines to glass packaging. The AgeWell line, which launched in 2020, uses fully recyclable glass bottles and jars that can be recycled curbside—and is estimated to save more than 125k pounds of plastic. 

    Arbonne's New CEO

    In April, Arbonne announced its new CEO—Tyler Whitehead. He has an established track record in the direct-selling industry, and will continue Arbonne's digital and global expansion efforts. 

    Arbonne International is a privately held beauty and wellness company, and Certified B Corp. It is a part of Groupe Rocher's family of brands. Groupe Rocher acquired Arbonne in 2018. 

    Its formulations are based on clinical research, and all products are vegan and cruelty-free. The company's ingredient policy bans more than 2,000 ingredients, such as PEGs, parabens, and phthalates.
