All profits from The Body Shop Foundation’s six-dollar Dragon Fruit Lip Butter will be donated to charity, as well as a portion of all sales through October 28. The amount given to each charity will depend on the number of consumer votes.
The charities that will benefit are: Center for Great Apes (animal welfare), Girls Educational and Mentoring Services (human rights), and Turtle Island Restoration Network (environmental protection).
Consumers can purchase the lip butter online or in-store, and then “vote” by dropping a token into a box. At Body Shop stores, shoppers will receive a token for any purchase, but shoppers buying the Dragon Fruit Lip Butter will get an additional token. For consumers making online purchases, an opportunity to vote will be given to each customer, per email address.
"The Body Shop Foundation Lip Butter is a great way to extend the reach of our global funding to domestic charities that are important to our consumer," says Lisa Jackson, CEO of The Body Shop Foundation. "With this launch, we can increase awareness and raise funds for organizations that speak to our values."
The Body Shop Foundation, which is the charitable trust of The Body Shop International, has been supporting grassroots organizations since 1989. Since then it has funded more than 2,500 projects around the world, donating just over $30 million.
