Xyrena has launched a new fragrance, Aaliyah - a tribute to the late R&B singer and actress who tragically passed away in a plane crash 14 years ago, at the age of 22.
The unisex fragrance was developed in collaboration with Aaliyah's mother and brother, Diane & Rashad Haughton.
It can be pre-ordered on the company's website now, and shipments begin mid-October. Xyrena will donate 5% of the gross sales from the fragrance to The Aaliyah Memorial Fund.
One side of the bottle is colored black, on the bottle's inner walls. Black was Aaliyah's favorite color. The other side of the square bottle has a gold label.
Why Launch This Fragrance Now?
"I grew up with Aaliyah's music," said Killian Wells, Founder/CEO of Xyrena, which is based in Los Angeles and markets celebrity fragrances. "As a huge fan, this is a very personal release for me and my company. We set out to create a fragrance to be cherished by Aaliyah's fans and also introduce her to a new generation."
Developing The Scent
The juice was inspired by actual fragrances Aaliyah wore, according to Xyrena. It's unisex, but more on the masculine side - since those are the type Aaliyah preferred.
It has base notes of vanilla, sandalwood, amber, and jasmine; middle notes of black pepper, violet and leather; with top notes of mint, lavender and mandarin.
"It has been wonderful working with Xyrena to create an incredible fragrance that embodies the beauty, mystery, and creativity that my sister infused into every aspect of her life," said Rashad Haughton, Aaliyah's brother.
The Ad Campaign
The company created an ad campaign on Vimeo, which features a video that stars young dancers famous on Vine.
