After rumors of a possible buyout, the speculation ended as The Estée Lauder Companies Inc. (ELC) confirmed a deal with BECCA Cosmetics for an undisclosed amount.
BECCA is ELC’s first makeup acquisition since Smashbox in 2010—and the latest in a series of portfolio additions for the company including Le Labo (2014), Rodin Olio Lusso (2014), Editions de Parfums Frédéric Malle (2015), GLAMGLOW (2015) and By Kilian (2016).
According to ELC, BECCA Cosmetics, which launched in 2001, has experienced exceptional growth over the last several years with a product line that includes primers, concealers, foundations, blushes and highlighters that use the “beauty of light” to enhance the complexion.
The brand is popular in North America, in retailers including Sephora and Ulta, and is headed for global expansion. BECCA boasts more than one million Instagram followers.
At press time, The Estée Lauder Companies announced it had signed an agreement to purchase Too Faced Cosmetics for approximately $1.45 billion, ELC’s largest acquisition ever. Stay tuned for details.
