Lexington International LLC, Boca Raton, FL, creator of the HairMax LaserComb products, is set to unveil two new low-level laser therapy (LLLT) products to the market over this month and next.
According to the American Hair Loss Association, 25% of males by age 21 report some hair loss, but by age 50, 85% of men report experiencing significant hair loss. With an equally stunning number, an astounding 25-30M women also at some point in their life experience hair loss in the US, giving an approximate potential market size of over 87M Americans. Currently, the baldness treatment industry is valued at approximately $1.5B.
Uniquely positioned across multiple industry lines, HairMax has the opportunity to take control of significant market segments. Between 2014 and 2020, the global beauty devices market is expected to see growth from $19.4B to over $54B, a CAGR of 18.7%. Most industry experts attribute this rapid growth to an increase in disposable income and an increase in aging population. Granted, the beauty device market is very diverse and hair restoration comprises only a very small portion of it, but the market still presents companies like HairMax - with their hair restorative products - room to grow and an opportunity to flourish.
The New Need
Hoping to ride the wave of at-home use beauty devices, HairMax is introducing two new products to the hair restoration market that are sure to catch some eyes and turn some heads: the HairMax Ultima 12 LaserComb and the HairMax Hands-Free LaserBand.
First introduced to the market in 2000, the HairMax LaserComb Premium, apart from requiring a longer application time and being aesthetically sterile, worked in the same way as the new LaserComb product. Since its introduction, there have been no reported negative side effects and, according to their 7 clinical trials, there is a 93% success rate resulting in new hair growth, reversal of the thinning process, and increased density and fullness among their participants. The clinical studies involved more than 460 subjects and were conducted at “top research centers in the USA,” according to HairMax.com.
Recognizing the shift in consumer preference to at-home use products that are flashy and compact, though still practical, HairMax contracted the design giant Pininfarina – “famous for fast cars, buildings, device design and packaging,” to assist in the rebirth of a top seller for HairMax, according to Francesca Dubsky, director of marketing, HairMax.
Though only designing the LaserBand product on its own, with the Ultima 12, however, Pininfarina designed not only the product, but also, about 95% of its packaging graphics. Working with designers in Tarino, Italy, and Miami, they were essentially given complete freedom over the design process.
“We gave them our current device and asked them to come back with something that looked beautiful. Something that people could keep on their countertop, or bedside table, or bathroom counter that would still look beautiful. It may still look like a medical device, but it must be beautiful enough to keep out,” stated Dubsky.
Assembled in the USA, the Ultima 12 features a redesigned timer, with lighted display dial and automatic turnoff; 12 professional-strength lasers; and an expected life span of 10-15 years with recommended usage. The cordless, lightweight wand runs on a rechargeable battery and is totally sheathed in the new Italian design – ergonomic shape, smooth texture, and beautiful, glossy aqua coloring.
How It Works
Created - and FDA cleared - to treat Androgenetic Alopecia, males with certain classifications of Norwood Hamilton, females with Ludwig (Savin) I-4, II-1, II-2, or frontal patterns of hair loss, and both males and females who have Fitzpatrick Skin Types I-IV, the laser-based products energize and nourish hair follicles by stimulating the cellular-level root via a process known as photo-biostimulation. Through the production of ATP, 655 nanometers of laser light stimulate the weakened hair follicles and enhance the elimination of harmful DHT. Simply put, “Increased cellular energy and blood flow extends the hair’s natural growth cycle,” according to their online resources.
The application process requires only three treatments per week at 90 seconds and 8 minutes each for the LaserBand and Ultima12, respectively. According to their clinical study, results can be expected within 26 weeks of consistent treatment.
HairMax products are available online at HairMax.com, as well as in prestige retail stores including Neiman Marcus, Nordstrom Online, Bergdorf Goodman, and additional distributors in 165 countries. While the Ultima12 LaserComb ($495) is expected to launch this month, the Hands-Free LaserBand ($895) is expected to launch a little later, but still early summer of this year.
Working in synergistic coordination with the LaserComb and LaserBand products are a handful of other HairMax products including Dietary Supplement ($18) – promoting hair, skin, and nail growth with 2500mcg biotin; Minoxidil ($35) – a topical solution for men and women, with 5% and 2% concentrations, respectively; and a complete, four-part offering called for density ($89 for the complete set), which includes the sulfate-free Shampoo ($18), argon oil Conditioner ($18), phytic acid Revitalizer ($23), and the niaciminide Activator ($45). All four of these products feature anti-oxidants and DHT blockers for improved hair vitality and strength.
Support For Reliability
In addition to being FDA cleared, HairMax also has a number of certifications to its name, such as the ISO 13485:2003 – known to be one of the most stringent standards for medical device products – and the USFDA Good Manufacturing Practices certification, being fully compliant with 21 CFR Part 820, US FDA Quality Systems Regulations. HairMax products are the first, hair-growth promoting, laser light medical devices for at-home use to be FDA cleared, possessing 6 FDA 510(k) OTC clearances. Additionally, of the seven clinical studies performed, four are published in peer-review medical journals.
Complementing their impressive list of certifications, HairMax also possesses more than 12 International Medical Device Licenses, and all their products and results are supported by the Medical Advisory Board, which consists of 30 professionals in the fields of dermatology, hair restoration, and medicine.
All in all, HairMax is poised and well situated to take advantage of its position in the market and assert itself as a leader in the at-home use, hair restorative, beauty device market.
