Berry Global Group, Inc. has announced their creation of a fully recyclable, single-substrate packaging solution for tubes, in partnership with More Recycling, a research and consulting company with over 20 years’ proficiency with recycling of post-consumer materials, which resulted in a coalition of industry stakeholders aiding in the Roadmap to Recyclability. The companies created a collaborative partnership responsible for fostering tube recycling. Berry says it is the leading tube manufacturer among many global personal care consumer goods companies in this coalition.
Through this partnership, Berry demonstrated its expertise in resin material science and design for recyclability. By identifying the barriers with tube recycling, Berry engineers outlined a path to achieve a recyclable plastic squeeze tube. Research from this coalition influenced the Association of Plastic Recyclers to recognize the tube Berry created as recyclable in the HDPE bottle stream. This process fulfills step one of the coalition’s three step plan and paved a path towards tube acceptance in curbside recycling streams.
