Rodan + Fields has launched Total RF Serum, and it's in a refillable glass bottle.
The package is the company's first refillable design, and is helping to advance its sustainability goals. Made with 90% recyclable materials, the refillable bottle is projected to save 26,600 pounds of packaging each year.
Rodan + Fields' Environmental, Social and Governance strategy details its social and environmental sustainability goals, which first launched in 2019 and are updated each year. These goals include having 75% of its packaging recyclable, refillable and reusable by 2025.
Details—Total RF Serum, in Refillable Glass
Total RF Serum's refillable packaging is the company's most sustainable innovation, to date. The outer package contains 65% post-consumer recycled (PCR) glass. It is durable enough to withstand reuse.
Consumers can purchase the inner refillable vial, which holds the serum, separately after the initial purchase. This design reduces the amount of total packaging by 74%.
Paul Baker, director of packaging design and development at Rodan + Fields, says, "The Total RF Serum design is an important milestone in our sustainable packaging strategy. We are proud to deliver refillable formats and use more post-consumer recycled materials."
Baker adds, "As we design future product innovations, we are collaborating with our suppliers on new technologies that have the potential to further increase the use of sustainable materials across our portfolio."
More Sustainable Designs Advance Its Mission

Lindsay Vignoles, director of environmental, social and governance at Rodan + Fields, says, "We recognize that we have a responsibility to reduce the environmental impact of our products, packaging and overall supply chain. We are pleased to introduce packaging that eliminates waste and supports a circular economy and believe there is significant opportunity to continue to do so as we develop our future pipeline."
