M·A·C Cosmetics is helping Xbox celebrate its 20th anniversary. "Gaming and beauty spaces continue to blend," the press release states, "and there's no better time to help gamers bring their favorite characters to life."
Just in time for Halloween, the brand offers step-by-step tutorials for creating characters in the fantastical worlds of the Xbox games Halo, Sea of Thieves, and Psychonauts.
M·A·C's director of makeup artistry, Romero Jennings, along with MUAs John Stapleton and Alicia Martinez, created the looks shown above, based on the animated characters in the games. The products they used are described below.

John T. Stapleton, senior artist, M∙A∙C Cosmetics, and Alicia Martinez, M∙A∙C Artist and Regional Education Trainer, turn themselves into Milla Vodello and Sasha Nein from the game Psychonauts.Stapeleton explains, “The game takes you into a fantastically absurd world of adventure and imagination, which I tried to capture with some of our most vividly colorful shadows and creams for Sasha, who is unmistakably green."
He adds, "I also wanted to bring out all his unique subtleties which make the game so cinematic, like the reflection of tangerine sunglasses across Sasha’s cheeks.”
Alicia Martinez, M∙A∙C Artist and Regional Education Trainer, says, “Making myself up as Milla, I wanted to be the warm to Sasha's cool. I started by brightening my eyes with Primary Yellow Chromagraphic Pencil and paired the 'Botanic Panic' Eyeshadow Palette in Marigold Digger and Floral A Go Go to bring a new twist to Milla's traditional eyeshadow look."
Martinez adds, "I then brought an anime-look to lashes with Magic Extensions Mascara for maximum spike. Finally, I opted for a muted nude on the lips blending Blankety lipstick with Devoted To Chili and topped with 'The Poutsiders' Powerglass.”
M∙A∙C MUA Martina Derosa was inspired by Cortana from the game Halo, for her character shown above. Derosa says, “When bringing this beloved AI character to life, I made sure to give her glowing eyes and skin to emphasize her hologram-like features.”
Romero Jennings, director of makeup artistry, M∙A∙C Cosmetics, recreated Lesedi's look from the game Sea of Thieves. “My look pays tribute to the colorful cast of pirates who you encounter throughout the epic adventure in search of hidden treasures," he says.
Jennings used highly pigmented color combined with simple application techniques. "Of course, no pirate costume is complete without dark and stormy eye makeup," he says.
Jennings used M∙A∙C's "Brun" eyeshadow to create the perfect smokey eye accented by Kohl Power Eye Pencil in "Feline."
He added Magic Extension 5mm Fibre Mascara and the brand's 80 Romantic Lash. "I then finished off the look with a bountiful lip created with 'Powder Kiss' Liquid Lipcolour in 'Pretty Pleats' and Love Me Liquid Lipcolour in 'Been There, Plum That,' ” he says.
