According to AdAge, Johnson & Johnson will stop shipping and producing its Clean & Clear Fairness line of products, sold in India, and its Neutrogena Fine Fairness line, available in Asia and the Middle East. However, the products may still appear on store shelves until stock runs out. J&J says it will work to replace the Fine Fairness line with Neutrogena Bright Boost.
“Conversations over the past few weeks highlighted that the name of our Neutrogena Fine Fairness line may be perceived in an unintended way as it represents fairness as better than your own unique skin tone,” a company spokesperson said in a statement. “Grounded in the belief that healthy skin is beautiful skin, we made the business decisions to no longer sell the Fine Fairness product line.”
This major news comes a month after the company decided to eliminate talc from its Johnson’s baby powder formulas in North America.
