The magazine's editors - and moms across the country - evaluated hundreds of products, scoring each on quality and performance. Since natural products are such a concern for parents, all of the nominees had to pass a toxicity test - scoring a 3 or lower in the Environmental Working Group's Skin Deep Cosmetics Database.
Andrea Barbalich, KIWI's editorial director, said, "Women are looking for beauty products that are made without toxic ingredients but also want to know, given the huge number of natural products now available, which ones are truly effective. We created the KIWI Natural Beauty Awards to celebrate the amazing products that deliver on both goals: They are safe to use and will also help women look and feel their very best.”
Next, KIWI asked a panel of natural beauty experts to choose a winner, plus two runners-up, in each of the 25 categories. The judges were: Kristen Arnett, founder of GreenBeautyTeam; Sarita Coren, blogger at EdibleFacial; and Sophie Uliano, author of Gorgeously Green.
