Henkel is growing its hair care portfolio. The German consumer products company has announced it will purchase three U.S. hair care companies for about$370 million in an attempt to strengthen its professional salon business.
Henkel, which currently owns Schwarzkopf hair products, said the three brands—SexyHair, Alterna and Kenra—have annual sales of about 140 million euros, mostly through hair salons.
Actress Katie Holmes is a co-owner and spokesperson at Alterna.
Henkel has reportedly been eyeing acquisitions for some time, amassing more than $5 billion for purchases, but without finding anything that fit.
The three brands are being sold by private equity firm TSG Consumer Partners.
