Glossier Furloughs Retail Teams

The timeline for reopening stores remains uncertain.

Glossier, which was among the first to close its retail locations to support public health, has announced that it will be furloughing its retail teams in New York, Los Angeles and London as of June 1.

Since Glossier closed its stores on March 13, it continued to pay retail workers their full wages with the hope that it would have a better line of sight to reopening its stores by now. With the realization that the timeline for reopening remains uncertain, Glossier announced it will compensate its teams in New York, Los Angeles and London through the end of May. The company will continue to cover benefits, including healthcare, through August.

“While this is a painful step, we remain as passionate as ever about the importance of offline experiences in Glossier’s future. Since day one, we’ve been a digital-first company, and even in ‘normal’ times, the vast majority of our sales happen online,” commented Emily Weiss, founder and CEO of Glossier, “We’re fortunate that we can afford to be nimble and responsive.”
