At the 21st TFWA Asia Pacific Exhibition & Conference, which took place in Singapore, research data indicated that the fragrance and cosmetics sector is still flying high.
TFWA president Erik Juul-Mortensen unveiled new data from travel retail specialists Generation Research, which showed that in 2015, for the first time since 2009, global duty-free and travel retail sales fell. Sales in 2015 totaled $62 billion, which was 2.3% down on the previous year.
However, while figures fell in all other duty-free and travel retail categories, fragrances and cosmetics sales increased by 2.3% to $19.5 billion. Even more promising, in Asia Pacific, sales had grown by 18.3% to a substantial $9.5 billion, making it the fastest growing category. Fragrances and cosmetics accounted for a significant 40% of all sales.
