Mintel says Brazil leads the world in hair care launches. |
In fact, Brazil’s hair care market is projected to see double-digit annual growth over the next four years to reach an estimated $12 billion by 2017. In 2013, Mintel estimates the shampoo and conditioner retail market alone was valued at nearly $3 billion. Usage of shampoo in Brazil is amongst the highest globally, with 91% of Brazilians saying they use it—equal to France (91%) and higher than Spain (90%), Italy (90%) and UK (89%); only Germany (92%) reports slightly higher penetration.
In addition, 39% of consumers in Brazil say they use leave-in conditioner, a high number when compared to developed markets such as France, where 11% of the consumers say they use it and the UK with usage of just 10%. Furthermore, 75% of Brazilian consumers say they use washout conditioner, compared to just 31% of French and 59% of UK consumers.
