Pantone has announced Greenery (##15-0343) as its 2017 Color of the Year, and the zesty yellow-green hue already seems right at home in the beauty industry - for both products and packaging. According to Pantone, Greenery is “a life-affirming shade that is “emblematic of the pursuit of personal passions and vitality.”

All shades of 'Greenery' seems to already be a popular color choice for package designers and product developers.

See the examples in the slideshow above.

Beauty Products & Packaging in All Shades of Greenery

Greenery conveys “boldness and vitality,” Pantone states. When used for beauty products, the color represents a “chic, confident punch of color for hair, lips, eyes and nails,” Pantone states. Green shades of makeup are also used as color-correcting concealers and foundations, Pantone points out, since they complement red shades, playing down ruddiness in the skin.

In the Graphic Design and Packaging worlds, Greenery can convey “good for you” and “organic,” due to the color’s prevalence in nature. Pantone states: “People respond on a visceral level to the hue, making the eye-catching Greenery an ideal shade for many applications of graphic design. This is especially true for packaging, where the sight of Greenery provides an instant message of freshness.”

Green Ingredients

Greenery is prominent in many health food trends today, including matcha, seaweed and avocado - and these are also ingredients that have inspired many beauty product formulations. In the food industry, Greenery conveys “fresh” and a “heathfulness,” according to Pantone. The same can be said about beauty products, especially brands that want to convey “natural” or “organic.”

“Green” ingredients, including those mentioned above, are popular in face mask products. In fragrances, there are green florals that often contain plant-inspired notes. These scents are sometimes in fragrance bottles that are sprayed green, adorned with green caps or decorated with labels displaying images of leafy plants.

What’s Next?

Greenery will no doubt soon inspire even more beauty launches throughout the coming year.
