Kurz Transfer Products says that in the coming years more brand marketers will be looking for “smart packaging” solutions. These solutions might include printing holographs on cartons and QR codes on bottles, jars, and labels.
Kurz’ Brand Enhancement Division provides solutions for both security and marketing applications with image recognition. “Smart and interactive packages will become much more important within several years,” says April Lytle, marketing coordinator, Kurz Transfer Products. “Security features such as UV symbols and images will add a level of covert security with anti-counterfeiting features that a lot of beauty products need,” says Lytle.
Kurz offers ways to print these types of security features on various types of packages and materials, including folding cartons and plastic jars. One of Kurz’ latest advancements is its new Digital Heat Transfer material. The material can be applied to all types of plastic substrates, using a typical heat transfer process. “This process provides all the advantages of digital printing,” says Lytle. “Variable data, high-resolution photos, smaller print runs and tight registration are just a few of the key benefits,” she says.
Lytle advises beauty brands to take a look at the latest advances in printing technologies, and how they can make a package more secure, while also helping a brand to establish a deeper connection with consumers. Printing a QR code on a package, for example, might persuade a consumer to visit a brand’s website.
Lytle adds, “It’s not always about how a package looks anymore - it’s about what it does.”
