Mary Kay says it believes there should be stronger legislation at the federal level, that will provide one clear standard for cosmetic products to maintain safety.
Mary Kay - along with the association of Independent Cosmetic Manufacturers and Distributors (ICMAD) - supports the reintroduction of legislation that will do this, which was originally known as the Cosmetic Safety Amendments Act of 2012. It enhances the U.S. Food and Drug Administration's existing power to review cosmetic ingredients and cosmetic products.
"Nothing is more important than product safety," said Terry Jacks, Vice President of Research and Development at Mary Kay. "Every year, we spend millions of dollars and conduct more than a half million tests to ensure our products are safe and effective."
This legislation would protect the viability of small businesses. Pam Busiek, CEO, ICMAD, says, "ICMAD has a long track record of working with federal regulators to promote product safety, honor the best science in our industry and advance small businesses that innovate and provide jobs."
Mary Kay stated in a press release: Mary Kay takes great pride in putting the continued safety and well-being of consumers of Mary Kay products above all else. We feel those efforts will be maximized with the passage of this proposed legislation.
