Comments:
With the acquisition of Pfizer’s consumer product business for $16.6 billion, Johnson & Johnson recorded a good gain in personal care sales. Skin care sales rose 9.7% to $2.6 billion, while baby and kid care sales jumped 11.5% to $1.7 billion. Skin care product growth was attributed to sales increases in the Aveeno, Johnson’s, adult, sun care and the newly-acquired Group Vendome adult skin care product lines. Group Vendome, a French company, houses brands such as Le Petit Marseillais, a line of shower gels, soaps and bath and hair care products; Laboratories Vendome, a dermatological solutions brand, comprises body cleansers and moisturizers and Prim’Age, a baby toiletries brand.
Key to 2006 consumer product sales are J&J’s Neutrogena and Aveeno lines of revolutionary skin care products with a newly-patented advanced sunscreen technology. Each of the brands launched five new products. Aveeno’s offerings use natural ingredients (soy based) that are clinically proven to even out skin tone and improve blotchiness and discoloration caused by previous sun damage.
Thanks to the acquisition of the Pfizer Healthcare business, consumer segment sales surged 47% in the third quarter to $3.6 billion. Domestic sales increased 39.8%, while international sales increased 54.2%. Aveeno, Clean & Clear and Neutrogena all recorded strong gains. |
